KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fans are rallying behind Kansas City rap artist Tech N9ne on Sunday after he revealed that his aunt was shot Saturday night.

Police said the suspect shot several bullets into her home, while Tech N9ne was traveling on tour.

It was devastating news for one of the metro’s most beloved celebrities.

Tech N9ne shared with his fans on Instagram Sunday afternoon that his aunt, Ivy Yates, had been shot.

It happened Saturday night. Yates was inside her home near 25th and Drury with her three grandchildren when bullets started to fly through the walls.

She was rushed to the hospital with a punctured lung.

Family said Ivy is the protector and nurturer, so now they are spending their days at her hospital bedside. They said she is like a mother to Tech N9ne and helped raise him.

Tech N9ne asked for love and positive energy for his fans in a recent post. Family said they feel the prayers are working, saying that Ivy had been taken off the breathing machine and is slowly improving.

Police need as much help as they can get in this case. If you know anything about the shooting, call Crimestoppers at (816) 474-TIPS.
