KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 29-year-old woman is dead following a crash overnight after avoiding a traffic stop by Kansas City, Kansas police.
The crash was reported just after 12:30 a.m. near South 32nd Street and Metropolitan Avenue in the city’s Argentine neighborhood, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The driver of a Nissan Altima was traveling west on Metropolitan when she struck a slope in the roadway at the intersection of South 32nd Street, according to KHP.
KHP said the driver lost control, ran off the road and struck a rock wall at a private residence.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Sade Shane Parker, of KCK, died from her injuries. She was not wearing a seatbelt, according to KHP.
KCKPD on Monday tells FOX4 an officer witnessed Parker run a stop sign at S. 18th Street and Metropolitan Avenue. He then activated his lights in an attempt to pull her over but she failed to yield and fled the scene. The officer then deactivated his emergency lights and stayed at 22nd and Metropolitan for several minutes before continuing his patrol and was made aware by a resident about the crash 10 blocks away.
The crash remains under investigation by KHP. The crash report originally listed this incident as a police pursuit but as of Monday, KHP has changed its records saying this was not a police pursuit.
