KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police were involved in a standoff Tuesday night with a person of interest in a laundromat shooting, officials say. The man peacefully surrendered.
KCMO police said officers were dispatched to a residence in the 4400 block of Tracy Avenue where they tried to contact a person of interest in a shooting that occurred earlier in the day. A person had life-threatening injuries after a shooting in the 3400 block of Independence Avenue at a laundromat parking lot.
Officers attempted to contact the man at the home on Tracy Avenue. But they were not successful, police said, so officers initiated a standoff. One man was inside a residence, and there were no hostages.
Police initially called the man a suspect in the shooting but later called him a person of interest.
After approximately an hourlong standoff, the man came out of the house and was taken into police custody without incident, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
