KCMO police arrest man armed with ax involved in standoff

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police have arrested a man who was involved in a standoff near 109th and Marsh in Kansas City on Wednesday.

Around 3 p.m., officers were called to the scene of the incident they say involved a man armed with an ax who had barricaded himself inside of a house located at 8305 E 110 Terrace.

Captain Tye Grant said a woman called police, who says the man, who had been staying at the residence, and ran from the house, lunged at her with an ax, so she ran outside, and the man reportedly followed. Police said the woman was unharmed.

When police arrived at the scene, the man had gone back inside the home, and could be heard tearing up the inside. The man refused to come out for police, and was reportedly the only one inside. Police said after negotiations began the man came out of the residence and was detained shortly before 5 p.m.  He was the transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
