KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City police responded to a fatal shooting on Thursday afternoon, and on Friday the victim was identified as 25-year-old Nicholas Patterson, a resident of Kansas City, Mo.

Police say they responded to the scene at about 2 p.m. where Patterson was found on the ground with a gunshot wound. The emergency call was released as a disturbance, police saying that an argument happened between acquaintances just outside of the fitness studio. People at a nearby apartment complex told FOX 4's Katie Banks they heard four gunshots, and saw the victim's body in the parking lot when they went outside.

"Scary, scary, because it's too close to home," witness Babette Gant told FOX 4.

"It shakes you; these are hardworking individuals that live in this area that want to live in a safe community, and all of us should be able to have that luxury of being safe," Sergeant Kari Thompson said.

Witnesses told investigators that they saw at least two suspects run away from the crime scene after the shooting, but no arrests have been announced.

Anyone with information about this deadly shooting is urged to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
