Large disturbance causes chaos at Independence Events Center

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. –Police in Independence  spent Sunday night breaking up a large disturbance that started inside of the Independence Events Center and spilled outside.

Police said that around 8:50 p.m. they started calling for assistance from other officers. KCMO police and the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrived to help the Independence officers at the scene.

The event center had been hosting tryouts for Ball Up, which is a street ball team. Street balling is a variation of basketball that allows the player to show off skills such as unique dribbling.

Independence police said that once the event let out, a handful of arguments with some shouting and shoving occurred.

According to police, mostly juveniles were involved in the fights. Police said they did not believe there were any weapons involved in the incident.

Two teens were arrested following the disturbance. One allegedly punched an officer and another is accused of blocking traffic.
