LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Police are investigating after a report of a potential stranger danger incident near the intersection of 5th and Linn Streets. A neighbor said he saw a man in a white truck pull up next to a little girl riding her bicycle on the sidewalk and act suspiciously.

“I noticed a white truck that kept backing up toward her while she was on the bike,” said Mike McCoy, who witnessed the incident. “Every time she would get closer to the truck, the truck would back up toward her, this happened about three times.”

McCoy said he continued to watch the truck from his front door.

“He started to open the door at one point to get out of his truck,” he said. “I came out of my front door, he saw me, he closed the door and he took off running the stop sign and everything.”

Police said the man in the white truck is described as a white man in his 30’s. They are calling the incident suspicious and said they are taking it seriously.

“I could have possibly been looking for my baby tonight rather than her being here,” said Amber Eagle, the 6-year-old little girl’s mother. “I don’t even want my kids outside playing, I don’t even want them to go outside.”

Police had extra patrols in the area after the incident. Eagle is asking her neighbors to keep their eye out for anything suspicious.

“I just want to let everybody know, hey, there is somebody in our neighborhood and please be careful,” she said. “Watch your children, watch your babies, you know, be aware and watch out.”
