LEAWOOD, Kan. — Three fathers from Leawood have banded together to create Kidsport — GPS tracking wristbands for kids.

The fathers came up with the idea two years ago during a family vacation they took as a group. While in Florida, one of their daughters went missing for 2 1/2 hours on the beach. The resort where they were staying required children to wear wristbands and one of the fathers said, “Too bad there isn’t a tracking device on that wristband.” And the idea was formed.

With the wristbands, parents could immediately check their smartphone or iPad to see their child’s location — if the unthinkable were to happen.
