KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A Kansas City, Kan., firefighter is behind bars Friday facing one count of sexual exploitation of a child.
Police arrested 33-year-old Devin Rich at 9 a.m. Friday. He is being held in the Wyandotte County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
“Mr. Devin is believed to had communication with someone he believed was under the age of 18, and in that conversation attempts to solicit that child for sexual acts. It was solicitation itself that caused the charge to be filed,” Wyandotte County District Attorney Mark Dupree said in a news conference Friday announcing the charge.
Dupree said during the news conference that person Rich attempted to solicit for sexual acts was actually an undercover agent posing as a 15-year-old.
He added that evidence shows that the solicitation happened while Rich was at work using the fire department’s electronic equipment.
He faces a minimum of 55 months behind bars.
Friday’s news conference is part of a county policy -anytime public servant is charged with crime – the public is to be made aware.
The Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department released this statement:
“The Kansas City Kansas Fire Department was made aware of formal charges of firefighter Devin Rich. Devin Rich was an eight year veteran of the Kansas City Kansas Fire Department and he was assigned to Station #7 at 2717 Strong KCK. Devin Rich has been suspended without pay since April of 2018.
