KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police cleared the scene of a standoff shortly before 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning after they determined a man, suspected to be armed with a rifle at 30th and Elmwood, was no longer in the home.

Police say it appears to have all started due to an argument between a couple living together. The argument reportedly turned physical, and the girlfriend reported the man was armed with a rifle. The call came into police at about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday. The woman was not hurt.

A negotiator and tactical response team were called to the home. The negotiator was reportedly on the phone with the man as he was walking around the home, armed with the rifle. However, when police went into the home, the man was gone and the rifle was left behind.
