OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A 29-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man was arrested Thursday morning and charged with a misdemeanor count of reckless stalking.

Overland Park police said Jose Luna Gonzalez stalked a 23-year-old woman, who became suspicious of the man’s car as she was driving in the area of I-35 and 69 Highway. She said she tried to change lanes and slow down to allow him to pass, but he stayed nearby, often driving erratically, she said.

The woman said the Gonzalez followed her all the way to the Lifetime Fitness health club at 138th and Metcalf.  She asked workers there to call police. When officers arrived, they arrested Jose Luna Gonzalez, who was in his car.

FOX 4 spoke to a woman who said she is Luna-Gonzalez’ ex-girlfriend and pregnant with his baby. Danielle Franco said even though they broke up months ago, she let him borrow her car to get to work on Saturday.

“It happened in my car. I don’t know where it’s at or who has it,” she said. “The police say they don’t have it at their tow service.”

FOX 4’s Rob Low found her Chrysler 300 still parked at Lifetime Fitness.

Franco said she regrets trusting him and said he even lied to her about the reason for his arrest.

“He was with a friend. They went to go eat and the police were behind him and he just took a left turn and he got arrested in Wyandotte,” Franco said Luna-Gonzalez told her.

Luna-Gonzalez remained in jail Friday evening on a $3,500 bond. Police say the victim does not know Luna-Gonzalez or why he was following her.
