Man charged in double homicide at family birthday party in Old Northeast KC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man accused of shooting four people this summer near Budd Park in Old Northeast Kansas City is now charged in the crime.

The Jackson County prosecutor has charged 41-year-old Jose Yepes-Zavala with two counts of second degree murder.

He’s accused of firing shots at a birthday party in July near Colorado Ave. and Smart Ave. in Kansas City during an altercation. Four people were shot and another received other injuries. One person was declared dead at the scene and a second victim later died at the hospital.

Yepes-Zavala has not yet been arrested.
