KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City man is accused of defrauding a Merriam car dealership out of a very expensive car.
Sanford Willis, 46, will have to face a Johnson County judge on Friday, but he won’t be driving the 2014 Maserati Quattroporte he’s accused of taking earlier this month from Aristocrat Motors.
According to court documents, Willis’ intention was to use deception to deprive Aristocrat Motors of the possession of the car which has a value of $100,000 or more.
Police say Willis pretended to have money on January 14th when he used a check to purchase the vehicle, but it was later determined that the check was not good. Police added that it’s not unusual for a customer at such a high end dealership to pay in cash or check before driving off in a vehicle.
Police were able to recover the car. Willis was scheduled to appear before a judge at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
