RAYTOWN, Mo. — A man is dead and two woman are in custody after a shooting at a Raytown home early Wednesday.

The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. at a home off of East 60th Street and Woodson Road, police said. Officials have identified the man killed as Jerry L. Riley Jr., a 32-year-old Kansas City man.

“They had the streets blocked off,” neighbor Willie Hooker said, “and I saw the detectives and the policemen and all the people.”

Hooker lives on East 60th Street and had a tough time getting to his house Wednesday morning because he came home to a crime scene on his street.

Shocking, but unfortunately, not terribly surprising. Hooker said this incident is the third one on his street in the past couple of months.

“We just had an incident just down the street three weeks ago,” Hooker said. “Our neighborhood is usually quiet. Neighbors get along together; they are friendly.”

Hooker includes the folks who live in the duplex where the shooting happened.

This scenario is not common. F.B.I. statistics show that just 12% of homicides are committed by women.

“I am sorry it happened,” Hooker said. “I did not know them personally, but like I said, we would wave at each other and just be neighbors.”

Police are not giving any additional information about this incident while it is under investigation.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
