KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A man exposed himself to a young girl Tuesday morning and called another girl an inappropriate name, police say.

The man approached the two Tiffany Ridge Elementary School students at the Crossing at Barry Road in two separate incidents. The girls immediately told a trusted adult, who contacted the police.

While she was inside, another child was heading to the bus stop. She saw the same guy, and he called her an inappropriate name.

She got scared and also ran to the apartment complex office to tell someone, and found the other student reporting it. The adult called the police.

The district sent an email, text alert, posted on their website, Facebook and Twitter about the incident and explained the girls did the right thing.

"We always let the families know when there’s a real threat like this, we think it’s important for the community to be aware so they can be on the lookout for these kinds of things, so we don’t just send it to the families of that one school, we send it to the entire district," says Nicole Kirby, the Director of Communication Services For Park Hill School District.

"It is very concerning to me, especially being a father of someone who goes to Tiffany Ridge," said Tiffany Ridge parent Syed Jaffri. "My kids sometimes do take the bus."

The Kansas City Police Department is investigating, and officers will increase their patrols in this area.
