KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Authorities have charged a man on Wednesday in a traffic accident in March that left one man dead.

Ramone Deaundre Akins, 23, of Kansas City, Mo. is charged with 1st degree involuntary manslaughter stemming from the crash on March 6 that killed 30-year-old Dwayne Horn Jr.

Court records say that Akins was driving “at an excessive rate of speed causing a collision” around 2:30 a.m. just before the crash at the intersection of 56th Street and Prospect Avenue.

Akins was reportedly southbound on Prospect when he came over the top of a small hill as Horn was turning onto Prospect from 56th, colliding with Horn’s vehicle on the driver’s side.

Investigators determined Akins was traveling of at least 83 mph, making it “impossible for Mr. Horn to have observed, anticipated, or reacted to the oncoming vehicle.”

If convicted of the class C felony, Akins could face up to seven years in prison.

Akins’s bond was set at $25,000.
