KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A teenager is facing charges after a man said she robbed and kidnapped him. Courtney Lynn Daniels, 18, of Kansas City, Mo., is behind bars and facing robbery, kidnapping and two armed criminal action charges.
Court documents show Daniels had been talking to the victim on Facebook and invited him to a home in the 5100 block of N. Fremont Avenue to take her to breakfast last Saturday. When the victim arrived, he told police that Daniels invited him in through the basement door. That’s when he said two men with guns started to punch him and then demanded his credit cards, cash, iPhone and car keys.
The victim told police that the suspects then bound his hands behind his back using zip ties, blindfolded him and loaded him into the backseat of his own car. According to court documents the suspects threatened to kill the victim in the woods, and he also heard Daniels’ voice in the car.
Finally, the victim was able to escape and jump from the moving vehicle. The probable cause statement shows the suspects kept on driving. The victim might have broken his ankle and was bruised up after jumping from the car.
Detectives responded to a QuikTrip where the victim said Daniels used to work, and they confirmed her identity with a manager and the Facebook account she had used to communicate with him. The victim identified Daniels from a photo lineup as the one who had lured him into the kidnapping.
A stop order was issued for her on Sunday, and she was arrested on Monday. During an interview, she denied involvement with the kidnapping and robbery, and also said she had never met the victim, but did say the Facebook account belonged to her and she had deactivated it. She also denied having ever been at the home where the victim said the kidnapping started.
Officers returned to that home on Fremont Avenue on Monday to do a residence check. According to court documents they arrested another woman on city warrants. That woman told officers she believed they were looking for Daniels, with whom she was sharing a room in jail with. She said she had met Daniels this past March at the same home where the kidnapping took place.
It is not yet known if officers have arrested the two men with the guns. Daniels is being held on a $50,000 bond.
