KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police arrested a man early Friday morning after he fled the scene of an accident, stripped down to his underwear and swam in Brush Creek.

The suspect was allegedly blasting his music while sitting in his car when neighbors called police to complain.

When police approached the vehicle, the man drove away after being asked fro his ID. Shortly after the encounter, the man crashed his vehicle into a guardrail on Brush Creek Bridge.

Police said that when they went to get the man he was in the water.

The man then tore off all of his clothing except for his underwear as he swam around the pond to elude police.

Police said the nearly naked man threatened them with a log.

Crews said they had a bean bag gun to help stop the man, but they weren’t able to use it.

First responders said they called an ambulance and water rescue team after the man complained he broke his leg.

Police eventually got into Brush Creek to help the man.

The chase lasted about 45 minutes, according to police.

Police have not commented on whether the man will face any charges. Police have also not said if the man was impaired during the time of the chase.

The man was transported to a hospital to be treated for injuries sustained during the crash.
