KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A University of Missouri Kansas City student was attacked by a man in broad daylight near Armour and Main Street on Tuesday.

The student is so afraid she didn’t want to talk on camera, but a friend of her agreed to an interview, as long as we didn’t show her face. The friend is also afraid because the attacker is still roaming the streets.

“She wasn’t taking her normal bus and she took a different bus and got dropped off here,” the friend explained.

The victim, a 21-year-old woman, had just gotten off a metro bus at about 4 p.m Tuesday and was walking to her apartment when her attacker followed her.

She had never seen him before, but he followed her into her apartment building, acting as if he lived there, too.

“She held the door open for him and went upstairs to her apartment,” the friend said.

A few minutes later, the woman turned around in her living room and saw the man coming inside.

“He walked in the door and she was like, ‘What are you doing?’ and he said, ‘Your boyfriend owes me money’. And she said ‘Who are you? I don’t even know you.'”

The man replied that he was from the FBI, then the friend says, he pushed her down on the couch and attacked her.

Several people heard the woman screaming for help as she fought him off. he tried, but did not sexually assault her, the friend says.

“She went to reach for her phone and he grabbed the phone and somehow she managed to get him to go out of the door.”

When the attacker ran off, the victim and two cleaning employees at the apartment building chased after him, but he got away through a side door.

“I just hope the women around here be careful of their surroundings,” said Alfred Whitaker, a neighbor and friend
