Maryland votes to end death penalty

(CNN) — The Maryland General Assembly has voted to ban the death penalty in that state. The vote was 82-56.

The bill now goes to Gov. Martin O’Malley’s desk.

The state Senate approved the bill last week. O’Malley introduced the legislation in January.
