BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. -- Allison Vanhoesen is ready to make a splash on the international stage. The 13-year-old swimmer from Blue Springs left on Wednesday with her mother and coach for the first ever Trisome games in Florence, Italy.

It's the Olympic Games for athletes from around the world with Down Syndrome.

Two-hundred and seven swimmers from 30 countries will compete in the championships. Allison is among only four swimmers from the United States who qualified to go.

Allsion is very excited about the trip and isn’t worried about the competition, and mom Kendra is incredibly proud of her.

The swimming competition begins July 17th. It's one of nine Olympic events at the Trisome games.
