MERRIAM, Kan. -- A dog that was taken from a metro animal shelter is now back with its family Thursday night. Alfie is the cockapoo who wandered away from his Prairie Village home and was turned in to the Great Plains SPCA lost animal offices in Merriam.
As they began to track the owner down, another family mistakenly took the dog home thinking he was available for adoption. After seeing the stories on the news, that family realized Alfie already had a home, and returned him for a reunion earlier this evening.
“We probably won't ever hear the full story and that's an okay thing. I'm grateful just to know that he got returned more than anything,” owner Scott Jablonski said.
There was mistaken communication over whether or not the dog was up for adoption, so the dog was taken away before rules would have typically allowed him to be adopted.
