KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A mother and daughter reported missing were spotted in the Kansas City area on Monday — and police are worried the mom and daughter are in danger.

Rachel Koechner, 28, and her daughter, Zoee Sandner, were reported missing Thursday by the Chariton County Sheriff’s Office. On Monday, police said the two, along with ex-husband and father of the girl, Devon Sandner, checked out of a Blue Springs, Mo., hotel.

According to the sheriff, Koechner called her current boyfriend Monday morning and said she was fine and that people should stop looking for her. However, the boyfriend said the answer sounded scripted.

The call was traced to the Nights Inn in Blue Springs. When the sheriff called the motel, the clerk said the family was in front of him checking out so he put the 28-year-old woman on the phone. She made it clear to the sheriff she could not talk freely.

The sheriff called Blue Springs, Mo., police, but by the time officers arrived the trio was gone.

“What’s frustrating is you know you probably two seconds before the call came out that you drive right by them and you didn’t know you were looking for them, especially here in Jefferson. They had to drive by somebody up here, and they certainly had to drive by a police person down there at some point —  if we just would’ve gotten the information a little faster,” said Detective Jeremy Dickstein.

Police said it was obvious the family left the motel in a hurry because there were still clothes and other personal items in the room. They were set to stay in the hotel until March 21, authorities said.

A warrant for Sandner’s arrest was issued by police on Monday in connection to five charges of felony forgery.

In July 2007, Sandner plead guilty to domestic assault charges involving Koechner, who was then his wife. The 37-year-old was put on one year of probation by the court and was not allowed contact with the 28-year-old.

In November 2007, Koechner asked the courts to change Sandner’s probation to allow contact because she was pregnant with his child. Eleven days later the courts changed the condition to allow contact.

Around the same time, Koechner and Sandner were divorced.

In a separate case, public records showed Sandner was arrested Jan. 2 for domestic assault charges in Chillicothe, Mo. He was ordered to have no contact with the woman involved and his court date was pushed back until April.

Koechner is described as 5’8″ tall, weighs 230 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. She has a dollar size tattoo on her left ankle of a mushroom. Her daughter is 4 feet tall, weighs about 60 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes.

Sandner, is 37, 6’3″ tall and weighs 217 pounds and has brown eyes.

The trio are believed to be in a 2003 Ford extended cab F-150 with Missouri plate 09J-718 with dents on the tailgate.
