KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Election season may be among us, but MoDOT is asking candidates to avoid putting campaign signs along local highways.
MoDOT recently issued a letter to all candidates in an effort to remind them that it is against the law to place political signs along the side of the highway because they can cause distractions for drivers and pose a danger for those working along the highways, as well.
“The sides of our roads, you have thousands of cars going by, going by at high speeds, and if you aren’t wearing the right safety equipment or in an area where you can get off the road you can very easily put yourself in a dangerous situation where you could get hurt or hit by something,” MoDOT Communications Manager Melissa Black said.
MoDOT says these election signs have been a problem during previous election years and they want to discourage it from happening.
