SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake County Attorney Sim Gill has decided to file attempted murder charges against a woman accused of dumping her newborn in the trash in an attempt to hide her pregnancy from her parents.
Gill said Friday he will file the charges against 23-year-old Alicia Marie Englert by end of the day Friday.
Englert was arrested last month after her newborn baby girl was found in a neighbor’s trash can. Court documents show she told police she hoped the newborn girl would die and solve her problems.
Unified Police said Friday the baby, who was only 2-days-old when she was found, is now in fair condition.
Robert Englert said his daughter has a learning disability and has only recently begun to understand what she has done.
