KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- "My baby could be dead. My baby could've been touched."

With tears in her eyes, mother of two Jennifer France shutters just thinking about what could've happened to her 3-year-old son Gabriel Monday after the child left the Early Childhood Learning center in Kansas City, Kan.

Jennifer said shortly before 1 p.m. Monday she stood at the bus stop and waited for Gabriel when she suddenly fell ill and had to rush back home to get sick, and by then her son's bus had left.

"They drove off, and I guess supposed to take him back to the school," Jennifer said, but she said she couldn't believe what happened next after she arrived at the school and talked to a secretary.

"I asked her, 'where is he?' She said, 'right over there.' I looked over like, 'where? What are you talking about?'" she recalled. "I said, 'that's not my kid.' She was like -- kind of like a shock question, like, 'are you sure that's not your kid?' Um, yeah. I pushed that kid out of me."

The worried mom said the boy she went to pick up was not her son.

"I imagined him on the road, the side of the street, something harmful happened to him," Jennifer said, fighting back tears.

It turns out, Jennifer said, somehow Gabriel's bus driver dropped him off at the other boy's grandfather's house. Jennifer said the two boys might have some "similar features," but still isn't totally sure how this mix-up happened.

The crying mother was finally re-united with her child after the other boy's mom took Gabriel back to the preschool.

"He's crying. He's saying, 'mommy, where were you? I was at another house. I was so scared,'" Jennifer said. "I don't care whatever your excuse is, my kid is not coming back to this school."

A school district spokesperson said they apologized to Jennifer for the mistake and are now trying to figure out exactly what when wrong. In the meantime, Jennifer said she has pulled Gabriel from the school and will be homeschooling him indefinitely.
