KANSAS CITY, Mo. — MoDOT crews have reopened northbound I-435 at 24-Highway after a water main break forced crews to shut it down for a few hours Wednesday morning.

The water department told FOX4 the break happened in a 12-inch water main that is in an embankment. That water then spilled out on the the highway. Temperatures were in the teens early Wednesday, which caused the water to freeze quickly freeze and cause issues for drivers.

There is no word on how long it will take for crews to repair the main. The highway was shut down for more than three hours.

Drivers were forced to exit the highway at Truman Road while the closure was in place.

An officer at the scene said the icy conditions caused nearly a dozen crashes.
