BATES CITY, Mo. — A 17-year-old Odessa boy died Tuesday in a crash at a location that some in the area say is a well-known danger.

Arron Specker was driving on Route Z in a 2004 Ford when his vehicle entered the path of a 2000 Dodge, driven by a 49-year-old woman from Bates City, at Route TT.  Bates City is about 30 minutes east of Kansas City.

The Dodge struck the driver’s side of Specker’s vehicle. Both vehicles traveled off the west side of Route Z and came to rest facing south, according to the traffic crash report.

Specker was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

One area resident told FOX 4 in a Facebook message that the  “intersection is dangerous and the people around here have tried to have it fixed before.” She wanted to remain anonymous but provided a picture of what she said was the crash site.

Specker was a student at Odessa High School. The Odessa R-VII School District released the following statement:

The Odessa R-VII School District wishes to provide their deepest sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of Aaron Specker, a student at Odessa High School who was involved in an automobile accident on February 16, 2016.

A Facebook page titled ‘In Loving Memory of Arron Specker‘ is adding members offering their condolences to the family.
