KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A Kansas City, Kan. police officer shot a suspect Saturday morning while patrolling in the area of 59th and Parallel.

The officer noticed a red vehicle driving erratically through the parking lot of a gas station. Observers claimed the vehicle was doing donuts in a gas station parking lot.

She tried to stop the car but when she approached the car, police say the driver put the car into gear and the officer was pinned between two vehicles. She fired shots into the suspect’s car, hitting the driver several times.

“Vehicle is coming at you towards you, you have to defend yourself or other people . So that officer did do what she was trained to do,” officer Patrick McCallop said.

Both the suspect and the driver were taken to the hospital. The suspect’s injuries were not known Saturday afternoon. The officer’s injuries were considered minor. A local business owner was quite upset with the incident.

“This is not what we do down here at H.T’s. We don’t even affiliate ourselves with this. We’ve got a lot of kids in the shop we also have a lot of officers that come down here and get a haircut,” H.T. Cooperwood, barbershop owner, said.
