KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- While conducting an investigation, Kansas City, Mo. police officers became victims of an attempted aggravated assault late Monday night.

Police officers were conducting a narcotics investigation around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, in the parking lot of a Shell gas station located in the 7900 block of Troost Avenue, when a vehicle came speeding toward them.

Two officers fired shots at the driver of the vehicle, fearing for their safety. Then the driver of that vehicle, who police described as a black male in his mid-20’s, fled the scene.

At approximately 11:00 p.m., the suspect who was driving that vehicle showed up at an area hospital with apparent gunshot wounds. He is listed in serious but stable condition. None of the police officers involved were injured during the attempted aggravated assault.

Charges are expected against the suspect later in the day on Tuesday. More information will be available as the investigation continues.
