OLATHE, Kan. — A young mom charged with the death of her baby girl was sentenced on Tuesday to more than 14 years in prison.

Marissa Carol Fields was sentenced to 14-years and 10-months in prison after she was found guilty of one count of intentional second-degree murder and one count of aggravated abandonment of a child.

Court documents said Fields' baby girl was found dead in a box inside the garage of their Olathe home. Fields' father reportedly found the baby in the box in December of 2014.

Olathe Police say Fields admitted giving birth to the baby during 2014, but a specific date was never given.

Court documents say Fields searched her phone for ways to induce a miscarriage at 38 weeks gestation. According to those documents, Fields also told police she didn’t know for sure if she was pregnant, because she had never taken a test, although she admitted to feeling some fetal movement prior to giving birth.
