OLATHE, Kan. — As a teenager, Edward Hensley blew off classes and only graduated high school because his father made him.
Now, Hensley has been named as the National Instructor of the Year by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.
Hensley, in his fifth year as an automotive instructor for the Olathe School District after nearly 30 years of working in dealerships, also scored the highest in the nation on his test to remaine ASE certified.
“In five years I’ll be retaking it,” said Hensley. “I’ll do the best I can on it each time I do it.”
Hensley says that his favorite part about teaching is in May when he sees most of his students graduate and head to the next level of education.
