WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Police Department has released the name of the man who died in a bulldozer accident on Tuesday. The victim was 52-year-old Mike Unruh of Moundridge.
Unruh was on a bulldozer that went into a neighborhood lake in north Wichita.
The Wichita Fire Department said the call came in around 11 a.m. Tuesday. Someone reported that a bulldozer and possibly its operator went into the water while working in the 2800 block of West Keywest Court.
First responders arrived on the scene. They located the bulldozer underwater about 30 to 40 feet from shore around noon. Within a half hour, they found Unruh. They tried to revive him, but it was too late.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Wichita Fire Department (WFD) said the bulldozer was not visible from the surface. It still needed to be pulled from the water.
WFD also said it did not know if Unruh suffered a medical-related incident before the bulldozer went into the water.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved,” WFD said.
