KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One man is dead after he was shot at a Kansas City hotel. The fatal shooting happened at about 5:15 on Friday afternoon at Value Place at 113th and Colorado.

Witnesses who knew the victim say he was at Value Place visiting his girlfriend when shots were suddenly fired. Witnesses say they heard four to five shots, then noticed a man was dead in the back of a car in the parking lot.

Family of the victim identified him as 23-year-old DeMarco Knott.

At last check, police told FOX 4 that two people are in custody. Witnesses say they saw the victim’s alleged girlfriend in handcuffs.

As the victim’s family got on scene they fell to the floor crying. A stranger, a woman who was nearby and heard the shots, rushed over the help.

“I was with her. I hugged her told her to try and stay calm. I didn’t want the police to kick her out of here. I prayed with her,” Patricia Cooper said.
