OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — One person has been killed Monday night after a shooting at a store in Overland Park, police say.

The shooting happened inside a Boost Mobile at 76th Street and Metcalf Avenue just before 8 p.m. Monday.

Police said they believe the shooting spurred from an attempted armed robbery. Overland Park Police spokesman John Lacy said a man entered the store with a gun and demanded an employee hand over the cell phones. The suspect then jumped the counter with a gun in hand.

The store employee also had a gun, and when the suspect jumped the counter, the employee fired his weapon, Lacy said. The robber was shot and killed in the shooting.

At this time, it’s not clear if the suspect also fired his weapon. Police plan to watch surveillance footage to determine exactly what happened.

FOX4 has a crew on scene and will update this story as more information is confirmed.
