BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — Gunfire in a restaurant parking lot at 1512 NW Woods Chapel Rd., killed one man Thursday morning at about 11:15.

According to Blue Springs Chief of Police Bob Muenz, the victim was in a white van when he was shot by a gunman either inside or just outside his vehicle. Muenz says the suspect then ran down the hill to a Kentucky Fried Chicken/Taco Bell combination restaurant, where he tried to take another driver’s car. The victim in that carjacking was not injured.

When police arrived there, they say they recovered a gun and took the suspect into custody.

They did not have any information about the victim and suspect and if they knew each other.

“Our hearts and prayers to out to the family of the deceased,” Muenz said.

This is the second homicide of the year in Blue Springs.

Police initially said this was the first homicide of 2017, but the department later corrected that statement. There was another homicide this summer in Blue Springs; Thursday’s homicide is the first since Muenz was appointed chief of police.
