KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A single-vehicle crash on I-70 left one person dead Friday morning.

Police said at about 7:28 a.m., a white Jeep Liberty going west on I-70 was speeding and lost control, crossed all three lanes and hit the center concrete median.

The Jeep went airborne and the driver was ejected as the vehicle hit a concrete pillar.

The driver landed on the left shoulder of the highway and the Liberty landed on its roof.

The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after.

The crash temporarily closed westbound I-70 at 23rd Street, but traffic is began moving through slowly about an hour later.
