OSAWATOMIE, Kan. -- Police arrested a patient at the Osawatomie State Hospital on Tuesday after another patient reportedly caught the man raping a hospital employee.

Police were called out to the hospital at about 8:45 p.m. on October 27 and were told that the 42-year-old patient summoned the 21-year-old staff member to his room and then raped her.

Another patient at the hospital noticed the disturbance in the room, entered and stopped the assault, according to police.  Other staff members then reportedly came to her aid.

The suspect was arrested and taken to the Miami County Jail. The woman was transported to Shawnee Mission Medical Center and was released the same evening.

Charges were expected but had not been filed as of Friday afternoon.
