KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- A KCK traffic director got a special recognition for the extra effort she puts into her role directing traffic each day.

Gwen McNair works for Miles Excavating as a flagger.

"You know, who isn't frustrated with construction?"  Carrie Land asked. "You're in a hurry, cars making it around and you're a little angry, but you come across her. Her giving her salutes or thumbs up. She just puts a smile on your face."

Carrie Land said she only knows McNair from passing through the construction zone near Merriam Lane, but her enthusiasm makes passing through the traffic a little more bearable.

"Giving  us thumbs up puts a smile on people's face," Land said. "They probably need it the most."

When presented with $300 as apart of FOX 4's Pay It Forward, McNair said, "I can't take it, that is so beautiful thank you so much."
