KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A 43-year-old man was hit and killed Thursday morning in a traffic accident near 71st and N. Brighton in Kansas City, Mo.

Sgt. Bill Mahoney with the Kansas City Police Department said around 6:10 Thursday morning, a middle-aged man stopped his vehicle on Brighton Road and got out. Shortly after another vehicle struck him, killing him.

"We don't know if he was having car problems or exactly what the case was, but the driver who struck the individual stopped, and he is cooperating with us," said Mahoney.

Police said the driver who struck the pedestrian was not intoxicated at the time of the accident. Mahoney said police at this time are not sure if speed was a factor, adding that police will continue to investigate.

The victim's identity has not been released pending family notification.
