SHAWNEE, Kan. — Five people were reported injured when a minivan rolled over and crashed on southbound I-435 at Midland Tuesday morning.

First responders arrived and found the minivan had flipped over and in the median. It appeared to be an accident involving only the van.

Police tell FOX 4 there were six people inside the minivan. Five were injured, including an infant. Four of those injured were thrown out of the vehicle.

The infant’s injuries were not among the most serious.

In a news release late Tuesday morning from Overland Park Regional Medical Center, the spokesperson said that three patients were being treated and expected to be released Tuesday afternoon.

Two adult patients were admitted and were in serious, but stable condition Tuesday afternoon.

“My heartfelt thanks to the Good Samaritans who stopped to assist the victims and provided comfort to them before the first responders, emergency personnel and fire and state troopers arrived at the scene,” the spokesperson said.

By 6:50 a.m., the first responders had left the scene, but traffic remained slow there.
