INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Folks were in line early Saturday for a huge plant sale at the Bass Pro Shop in Independence.

The plants went quickly.  By 9:30 a.m., most of the 10,000 plant for sale by the Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas City were gone.

The experts at the sale told FOX 4 News the usual motto of “Plant after Mother’s Day” may be a bit skewed this year, because of Mother Nature.  The soil is still too cold for most plants.

“Your perenials you can plant now.  They are accustomed to making it through the winter so the cold soil won’t bother them.  But annual flowering plants, I would keep them warm and wait for the air and soil to be warmer,” advised Master Gardner Kathy Hoggard.

The funds from this year’s sale will provide for 12 community gardens in the inner city.
