BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — Authorities in Blue Springs say that they are questioning four people – two adults and two juveniles – in connection to the BB gun shooting of a ice cream truck driver on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say that Patrick G. Schramke, 47, a driver for the Kansas City Ice Cream Company, was shot several times with what appeared to be a BB or pellet gun during an apparent robbery attempt near SW 29th Street and SW Jackson Street in Blue Springs shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, Schramke and other witnesses identified the suspects as four black males – possibly juveniles – who fled the scene both on foot and in a maroon four-door passenger vehicle with a bungee holding down the hood.

Schramke was treated and released from the hospital on Tuesday night.

Police say officers located several juvenile black males and detained them pending investigation into the case. In addition, on Tuesday evening an individual driving a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description arrived at police headquarters to turn himself in.

Authorities say that there are now four people in custody in total. The identities of the suspects have not been released and charges in the case, which is still under investigation, have not yet been filed.
