Police: Apartment resident says he stabbed homicide victim in self-defense

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Police are investigating a fatal stabbing which took place at a Kansas City residence.

On Monday, Kansas City police were called to an apartment near 96th and Lydia just before 4 p.m., where they say they found a resident of the apartment complex and another person who had both been stabbed.

According to police, the resident of the apartment, a 25-year-old male, was located suffering from stab wounds to both his arm and hand. A second man estimated to be in his 30’s was later located behind the apartment showing no signs of life. Both men were transported to an area hospital. The 25-year-old was listed in serious but stable condition, and the second man was pronounced dead a short time later.

The 25-year-old said the man in his 30’s was visiting him at his apartment when he became angry and stabbed him, the man said he retrieved a knife from his kitchen and stabbed the victim in self-defense. After being stabbed by the resident, the man said the victim fled on foot, then collapsed behind the apartment complex.
