KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A standoff came to an end in Kansas City on Monday evening when the suspect tried to make a run for it.

Police were called to 37th and Bales at 6:30 p.m. on the report of shots fired. They found a pistol whipped victim and the suspect barricaded in a home on the street.

About 8:00 p.m. the suspect ran from the home down Bales behind neighboring homes. Police who were surrounding the house, as well as others who had set up a perimeter, gave chase catching the suspect after a short foot chase. The man was reportedly running through brush and trying to scale a fence.

Police with bullhorns remained on scene to make sure no one else was in the house, finally clearing the scene at 9:45 p.m.

The victim was taken to the hospital with what dispatchers described as minor injuries.
