TRACY, Mo. -- The Missouri Highway Patrol has released the names of two people killed in a deadly accident in Tracy, Mo. Police said Randy Hartline, 27, and Antwinette Holtsclaw, 57, were killed in a head-on collision as Hartline attempted to flee police.

Officers were pursuing Hartline along 92 Highway near Humphries Road on Monday afternoon when he collided with Holtsclaw. Holtsclaw died at the scene. Police said Hartline later died at the hospital.

Police said Hartline stole as many as five cars between Iowa and Missouri. The first theft happened in Council Bluffs, Iowa about 150 miles away from where Monday's chase ended.

"This is not how we'd want something to end," said Sgt. Lowe with the Missouri Highway Patrol. "We'd like it to end peacefully, but the suspect chose a different path, and, unfortunately, a victim was at the cost."

Officers responded to a call regarding a theft at a home. It turned out to be the same thief who police chased in a stolen Buick for about two miles before the crashed.

"He was engaged in criminal acts," Lowe said. "He forcefully took this vehicle by gunpoint. He had intent of depriving them of ownership of their vehicle. He didn't care who he sacrificed to get his deeds done."

Police said drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash or the spree of robberies.
