Police identify woman found dead on playground at apartment complex

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police have identified the woman found dead at an apartment complex playground on Wednesday, June 4.

Police are investigating the death of 35-year-old Shaunda L. Thomas, who was found in the 7000 block of Crabapple Lane in Kansas City. Authorities said they received a call around 8:10 a.m. of a person laying on a playground in the middle of the Maple Hills Apartment Complex campus.

When officers arrived they found the dead woman. Police said there were visible signs of trauma, but a cause of death has yet to be determined.

"Any information we get helps us determine what may have happened," Captain Tye Grant said.

Police are investigating the case as a homicide, it had previously been termed as a suspicious death. Anyone with information that will help lead to an arrest should call the TIPS Hotline at 816.474.TIPS.
