KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Investigators are on the scene where a body was found Monday morning in a wooded area near the Trolley Track Trail.
A Facebook user initially contacted FOX 4 saying that her daughter is speaking to police about a body found on the trail near 85th and Woodland. She said around 7:30 a.m. a man approached her daughter saying there was a dead body on the trail and to call police. She said her daughter described the body to police. She said the body was that of a white man, but did not give additional details.
Kansas City police confirmed they are investigating a body found at that location.
Stacey Graves with KCPD said the circumstances are suspicious, but until a cause of death is determined, the scene is being treated as a death investigation. Homicide detectives are processing the scene. The FBI is not assisting in this case.
Police said the body was found in a wooded area near a walking path that feeds into the Trolley Track Trail. The recent killings on another trail — the Indian Creek Trail — where the latest death occurred about three miles away from this location, has some wondering if this incident is related.
“These trails are safe. There’s a lot of extra patrols on the road right now and this is something we are aware of but like I said we have no indication this is related to the other for homicides that have occurred on or around the Indian Creek Trail,” Graves said.
Neighbors told FOX 4 the area is known to be dangerous, saying it’s not safe to walk at night. Graves said this death does not appear to share similarities with those linked to the Indian Creek Trail.
“In addition to that, we can’t say those are related we don’t have any physical evidence that are linking those for homicides. We just felt like we had and obligation to let the public know that they were for homicides that have occurred in and around Indian Creek Trail. But like I said, until we have a factual reason or facts to link those, right now we cannot say that they are,” Graves said. “The other four had similarities but at this time we do not believe this homicide here shares those similarities.”
