LIBERTY, Mo. -- A three-month-old baby died while in the care of an adult babysitter on Monday. The baby stopped breathing while at a home on Lindenwood Lane.
A Liberty police death investigation report was released on Wednesday, and it only has information about what children inside the home told investigators.
They said they thought the baby cried himself to sleep on a king-sized mattress in the home. A pillow, a blanket, and a child`s toy were on the bed at the time.
When the babysitter went to check on the child about 10 minutes later, he wasn`t breathing. A 911 call was made, and the baby later died at a hospital.
A man living at the home where the baby was found unresponsive told FOX 4’s Dave D’Marko that his wife cares for four children from a couple of different families, and at this point it`s unclear whether the home is a licensed daycare facility.
Missouri law only requires daycare providers to be licensed when they are caring for more than four children who aren`t their own.
Investigators say they will wait on autopsy results to find out more about the child`s death, which could take several weeks, but at this point they don`t suspect foul play.
