LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. -- One man is in the hospital and his father is in police custody after an overnight shooting in Lee's Summit, Mo.

Police said a 40-year-old Chad Beatie and his 20-year-old Tyler were working on a dirt bike overnight in the garage at their house in the 1700 block of NE Ridgeview Dr. An argument ensued, and, according to police, Beatie shot his son in the abdomen.

The young man's girlfriend, Elizabeth Sherman, who also lives at the home, spoke with FOX 4's Matt Stewart off camera about the shooting.

According to Sherman the men had been drinking. She said Tyler came to the door and yelled to her that he'd been shot. She said Tyler laid down in the garage and called police. Sherman said she applied pressure to the wound while she spoke with police dispatch. During this time Sherman said Beatie continued to yell at Tyler.

Tyler was taken to an area hospital where he underwent surgery where doctors removed a part of his large intestine.

Beatie quickly surrendered to police and remains in custody at this time.
